Jump Into a Story - Floor Storytelling with Story Clouds

Storytelling doesn’t have to happen at a table or on a screen.

With Story Clouds, children can build stories on the floor — using movement, props and imagination.

The projection board shows six clouds that naturally guide a story:

who, with whom, where, when, action and goal.

In the video, the facilitator places simple props on the clouds — facial expressions for characters, trees for location, a clock for time, a rocket for action and a big smile for the story goal. From there, the story comes to life.

3 activity ideas using Story Clouds

1. Visual story building

Children place props on each cloud to create a clear, visual story structure. Perfect for younger kids who need concrete elements to support storytelling.

2. Jump & act the story

Children jump from cloud to cloud, acting out each part of the story using body movement and facial expressions. A great way to combine language, emotions and physical activity.

3. Step-by-step storytelling

Using the clouds as prompts, children tell the story in order - one cloud at a time - learning how to build simple narratives with a beginning, middle and goal.

Where to get story ideas?

  • current classroom topics or weekly themes
  • books and fairy tales you’ve read together
  • real-life situations or challenges children talk about
  • seasonal events and holidays

Sometimes all it takes is one cloud to start a great story.
