The Sports Track Mat works perfectly for team games, as it offers three parallel lanes for groups of children. Below are three ready-to-use activity ideas – one of them is bowling.
🎳 1) Bowling on Three Lanes
Set up 6 pins on each lane (you can also use cones, bottles or cardboard figures). Children throw balls, trying to knock down as many pins as possible.
How to play:
- individual play – each child has e.g. 2 throws, count the knocked-down pins,
- team play – add up the results from all three lanes,
- time challenge – how many pins can the team knock down in 60 seconds.
This game develops: aiming skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration, and creates lots of excitement.
🏃♂️ 2) Relay Race
Divide the children into three teams - each team starts on its own lane. The task is to complete the lane back and forth and pass the “baton” (e.g. a ball, beanbag or prop) to the next teammate.
Movement variations:
- running / heel-to-toe walking / two-foot jumps / crawling / hopping on one leg / squatting walk with hands on ankles,
- running with a task (e.g. a bend or squat at marked points),
- moving backwards,
- with a ball: rolling / bouncing / tossing,
- with a hacky sack: carrying it on the head or on a spoon.
The relay builds cooperation, coordination and turn-taking. It also brings out strong emotions: cheering, team support, healthy competition and responsibility for the team result.
🎯 3) Accuracy Lane: “Ball Transfer”
Place a basket or box at both ends of the lane. At the start, one container holds balls, soft beanbags or foam “snowballs”. Children stand on both sides of the lane and play in pairs or teams.
How to play:
Players take turns throwing the balls into the container on the opposite side. Once one of the players is done the next player throws them back. The game continues until everyone has had their turn. At the end, count the balls in the container.
The winning team is the one that kept the most balls in play.
Single-box variation:
Each box starts with the same number of balls. A child runs along the lane, takes one ball from the box, runs back to the start and throws it into the box. Each teammate repeats the task. After everyone has played, count how many balls remain in the boxes.
What this game develops:
A great combination of movement and precision - children learn that after physical effort, they still need to control their body and perform an accurate action.
